Nurse Education, Practice, Quality and Retention (NEPQR) – Workforce Expansion Program (WEP)

This program increases the nursing workforce in rural and medically underserved areas to address the critical shortage of nurses, specifically in acute and long-term care settings.

Am I eligible?

When funding is available, you can apply if you are*:

Institutions of higher education

  • Public or private accredited schools of nursing, such as community colleges

Health care facilities

  • Nursing centers
  • Nurse-managed health clinics
  • Ambulatory surgical center
  • Academic health centers
  • Indian Health Service health centers
  • Native Hawaiian health center
  • Hospital
  • Nursing home
  • Home health agency
  • Hospice program
  • Public health clinic
  • Skilled nursing facility
  • State or local department of public health
  • Federally qualified health centers (FQHCs)
  • Rural health clinics

Tribes & tribal organizations (if otherwise eligible)

  • Native American tribal governments
  • Native American tribal organizations
