Health Workforce Programs

Purpose: Increase the number of primary care nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, and certified nurse midwives trained and prepared to provide primary care services, mental health and substance use disorder care, and/or maternal health care.

Purpose: Develop and enhance education and training networks within communities, academic institutions, and community-based organizations.

Purpose: Provide loan repayment assistance to faculty members from economically and environmentally disadvantaged backgrounds with eligible health professions degrees or certificates to serve at eligible academic institutions.

Purpose: Support accredited nurse midwifery programs to train nurse midwives to grow and diversify the maternal and perinatal health nursing workforce in rural and underserved communities.

Purpose: Provide scholarships to students pursuing primary care health professions training in return for a commitment to provide primary health services in a Health Professional Shortage Area.

Purpose: Provide loan repayment to students in their last year of school pursuing a degree in allopathic medicine, osteopathic medicine, physician assistant studies, nursing, or dentistry. In exchange for loan repayment, individuals agree to provide primary health services in Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSAs) of greatest need.

Purpose: Increase the supply and distribution of certified registered nurse anesthetists who are prepared and well positioned to practice independently and collaboratively within interprofessional teams and to deliver evidence-based, high-quality, and safe anesthesia and pain management services. The program aims to expand access to anesthesia services, especially to rural, urban, and tribal underserved communities nationwide.

Purpose: Support the creation of academies, consisting of academic-clinical-community partnerships, that develop and implement formal nurse education training curriculum used to train clinical nursing faculty and preceptors.

Purpose: Increase the access to and quality of behavioral health services through team-based care models in interprofessional nurse-led primary care teams in rural or underserved areas.

Purpose: Increase and strengthen the diversity, education, and training of the nursing workforce to provide culturally aligned quality care in rural and underserved areas where there are health care disparities related to access to and delivery of care.
