Our workforce programs help strengthen the health workforce and connect skilled health care providers to communities in need, improving the health of people who need it most.

We offer scholarship, loan, and loan repayment programs to individuals and award grants to organizations (For example, schools, hospitals, health departments).

National Health Service Corps Students to Service Loan Repayment Program (NHSC S2S LRP)

Program Type: Loan Repayment
Topic: Medicine; Nursing; Oral Health
Purpose: Provide loan repayment to students in their last year of school pursuing a degree in allopathic medicine, osteopathic medicine, physician assistant studies, nursing, or dentistry. In exchange for loan repayment, individuals agree to provide primary health services in Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSAs) of greatest need.

Advanced Nursing Education (ANE)

Program Type: Grant
Topic: Nursing
Purpose: Increase the number of primary care nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, and certified nurse midwives trained and prepared to provide primary care services, mental health and substance use disorder care, and/or maternal health care. Awardees will provide tuition and other eligible supports to trainees, build academic-clinical partnerships to facilitate clinical training, and continue to develop and sustain clinical faculty and preceptors.

Advanced Nursing Education – Nurse Practitioner Residency (ANE-NPR)

Program Type: Grant
Topic: Nursing
Purpose: Prepare new nurse practitioners in primary care for practice in community-based settings through clinical- and academic-focused 12-month nurse practitioner residency programs, with a preference for those projects that benefit rural or underserved populations.

Advanced Nursing Education - Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (ANE-SANE)

Program Type: Grant
Topic: Nursing
Purpose: Fund advanced nursing education to train and certify registered nurses (RNs), advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs), and forensic nurses (FNs) to practice as sexual assault nurse examiners (SANEs). The program aims to increase the supply and distribution of qualified working SANEs and expand access to sexual assault forensic examinations to provide better physical and mental health care for survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence.

Advanced Nursing Education Nurse Practitioner Residency and Fellowship (ANE-NPRF) Program

Program Type: Grant
Topic: Nursing
Purpose: Prepare new advanced practice registered nurses to effectively provide primary care by supporting the establishment, expansion, and/or enhancement of existing community-based nurse practitioner residency and fellowship training programs that are accredited or in the accreditation process.

The program focuses on the integration of behavioral health and/or maternal health into primary care by training new primary care providers, behavioral health providers, and/or certified nurse midwives to transition from education completion to practice in community-based settings.

Advanced Nursing Education Workforce (ANEW)

Program Type: Grant
Topic: Nursing
Purpose: Increase the number of primary care nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, and certified nurse midwives trained and prepared to provide primary care services, mental health and substance use disorder care, and/or maternal health care.

Area Health Education Centers (AHEC)

Program Type: Grant
Topic: Medicine; Nursing
Purpose: Develop and enhance education and training networks within communities, academic institutions, and community-based organizations.

Faculty Loan Repayment Program (FLRP)

Program Type: Loan Repayment
Topic: Behavioral or Mental Health; Medicine; Nursing; Oral Health
Purpose: Provide loan repayment assistance to faculty members from economically and environmentally disadvantaged backgrounds with eligible health professions degrees or certificates to serve at eligible academic institutions.
