Accepting your job offer

After you accept a job offer, you will need to follow these steps:

  1. Inform your regional analyst first
    • It is required that you notify your regional analyst before accepting a job offer. Use the Question ID# to inform them of your decision and provide your expected start date.
  2. Activate a Nurse Corps site (if applicable)
    • If you accepted a job offer at a site that is not listed in the Health Workforce Connector (HWC), the site must be activated.
    • During your interview, you should have identified a Point of Contact (POC) at the site who will confirm your employment and handle in-service verifications.
    • If you can’t find a POC, you cannot work at that site.
    • Complete the Critical Shortage Facility (CSF) form with the POC and email it to your regional analyst. Notify your regional analyst through the Question (ID#) that you accepted a job offer at a site not listed in the HWC. Your regional analyst will then send you the CSF form to your email on record.
    • Your regional analyst will review your activation request. If approved, NC will invite the POC to create a portal account. The POC must activate this account.
    • Your regional analyst will notify you when this process is complete.

Upload required employment placement documents

This table lists the two (2) required employment placement documents to begin your service obligation. Upload all documents into the Site Search section of the BHW Customer Service Portal. All documents must be approved for you to begin your service obligation.

Notify your regional analyst when you start employment

  • If your start date changes, update your regional analyst with the new date.
  • This notification will prompt your regional analyst to start the process of converting you to "ACTIVE-ON Duty" status, indicating that you have started working towards your service obligation.
  • Your regional analyst will inform you when this conversion is complete.
  • Your service obligation officially begins on your first day of employment.

During your service obligation

  • When you are listed as "Active-On Duty," you are officially working towards fulfilling your service obligation.
  • The Division of Participant Support and Compliance (DPSC) will oversee all activities related to your service obligation.

If you have any questions or need help, you can reach out to DPSC in the following ways:

  • Submit a question through your BHW Customer Portal account.
  • Call the BHW Call Center at 800-221-9393 (TTY hearing impaired: 877-897-9910).
  • Email GetHelp@hrsa.gov.

On your start date

  • Use the BHW Customer Service Portal to send a message to your analyst on your start date. The analyst will then send the site point of contact an electronic Employment Verification Form that must be completed in the portal.
  • After the Site Status Change Request and Employment Verification Form are complete, the Nurse Corps Monitoring and Transition Team will approve your placement.
    • Note that approval can take several weeks.
  • When approval is completed, your status in the BHW Customer Service Portal changes to "In Service."
  • Your analyst will notify you when your status changes and the Transition to Service process is complete.
  • Service credit will be backdated to your start date after you are placed "In Service."

After you are in service

Now that you are in service, the Division of Participant Support and Compliance (DPSC) assumes all oversight activities during your service obligation.

If you have questions or need assistance, contact them directly by:

If you can't start your service as planned, you must request a suspension, waiver, or deferment.
